General Instructions
Tap on a Trail on the list to view the list of Sites available for that Trail. There are currently four Trails available:
Landcare Trail;
Wildcare Trail;
Nature Trail or;
Anglers Trail.
Tap on a Site to view more information about the site before you go, or read it when you are on site.
Within the Site details page, you can:
tap 'READ MORE' to get a description of the site (and where available, 'WHAT WE DO' for any Landcare activity on the site);
tap the map image to get an enlarged map of the Site (works offline if you pre-loaded this web-app whilst in phone range or on wi-fi - see 'Preparing for Offline' section below for more details);
tap 'START NAVIGATION IN MAP APP' to send your current location, and the location of the Site, to your device's built-in map app, which can assist you with navigation to the site. Unlike most of this web-app, this function requires a 3G or wi-fi internet connection. Also note that this will leave the Self-Guided Tour App, either opening a new page in your browser, or opening an app on your device, so bookmarking the Self-Guided Trail App is recommended to get back to it easily;
tap 'SHOW WRITTEN DIRECTION' to get a written instruction on how to get to the Site;
tap the URL/link at the bottom to visit the web page of the organisation associated with the site. Note that this will leave the Self-Guided Tour App, opening a new page in your browser, so bookmarking the Self-Guided Trail App is recommended to get back to it easily.
Enjoy touring around the Huon Valley and have a lovely day!
My Trail - build your own adventure!
Click the '+' sign on the right of any Site to add it to 'My Trail', allowing you to make your own personalised Trail, mixing Sites from any of the Trails provided. If you wish to remove a Site from 'My Trail', tap the 'X' button to remove it.
'My Trail' is located on the main page, under the four available Trails. and list all of your chosen Sites. You can view the Sites in 'My Trail' as a list or on a map, you can toggle between these using the buttons top center of 'My Trail'.
The 'Map' mode (requires 3G or Wifi connection) will show each of your chosen sites as 'pins' on a Google Map. Tapping on a pin will open a callout box which contains:
a brief summary to guide you;
a 'Start Navigation to Site' link to to send your current location, and the location of the Site, to your device's built-in map app, which can assist you with navigation to the site. Note that this will leave the Self-Guided Tour App, either opening a new page in your browser, or opening an app on your device, so bookmarking the Self-Guided Trail App is recommended to get back to it easily;
a small 'x' in the top right to close the callout box.
When in the 'List' mode, tapping on a Site provides more information about the Site and written directions in case you are out of 3G/Wifi range.
Preparing for offline - think you might go off the beaten track?
Not sure if you will have internet outdoors or when on the Self-Guided Trail? Simply open the Self Guided Tour App on your device in a WiFi hotspot and select your Trail options - the web-app will load itself to your device (< 30MB) ready for your travels in or out of phone range. Save the Self Guided Tour App to your Favourites/Bookmarks and you can quickly access it once it's loaded to your phone (make sure you have charged your device to last a full days touring).
